Youth Benefits

Personal Development & Confidence

Self-confidence: Performing in front of an audience helps young people overcome nerves and build belief in themselves.

Self-expression: Acting, singing, dancing, and comedy give youth safe ways to express creativity and emotions.

Resilience: Rehearsals, mistakes, and constructive feedback teach perseverance and coping with challenges.

Teamwork & Social Skills

Collaboration: Youth learn to work as part of a cast and crew, relying on each other to succeed.

Communication skills: Clear speaking, listening, and non-verbal communication are essential on and off stage.

Friendships: Strong bonds often form across sections, ages, and backgrounds, fostering inclusion and belonging.

Skills for Life (Onstage & Backstage)

Our Revue involve much more than performing:

  • Leadership: Older youth may mentor younger members or take assistant director, dance captain, or crew roles.

  • Technical skills: Lighting, sound, set construction, costume, props, stage management, and publicity.

  • Time management: Balancing rehearsals with school and home life builds responsibility and discipline.

Character & Values (Scouting in Action)

Responsibility: Youth commit to rehearsals and performances, learning reliability and accountability.

Respect: They work with people of different ages, abilities, and personalities.

Service: Performing for the community reinforces the Scouting ethos of giving back and bringing joy to others.

Cultural Awareness & Creativity

Storytelling: Revues often explore social themes, humour, and current issues in age-appropriate ways.

Appreciation of the arts: Youth gain insight into theatre, music, choreography, and live production.

Confidence in public spaces: Being comfortable on stage translates into confidence in school, interviews, and future careers.
